Energy Cluster Norway - launched at ONS 2026

The launch took place on 24 August 2026 at ONS in Stavanger. Three strong, complementary energy clusters - Energy Transition Norway, GCE Ocean Technology and Energy Valley – are joining forces in a new national initiative, bringing together 350+ companies across the energy value chain. With strong regional roots and one national force, the ambition is clear: raise ambitions, increase the pace and strengthen collaboration and innovation across Norway’s energy industry.

Minister of Trade and Industry Cecilie T. Myrseth cut the ribbon and officially launched Energy Cluster Norway.

From regional strengths to national impact

Norway has world-leading expertise in areas including offshore and subsea technology, hydrogen, CCUS, digitalisation and emerging energy solutions. At the same time, international competition for technology, investment and innovation is intensifying.

ECN aims to strengthen Norway’s ability to turn industrial challenges into new technologies, projects and commercial opportunities by connecting companies, research environments and expertise across technologies and regions.

Rather than establishing a single headquarters or lead region, ECN will retain expertise and activities across its existing regional environments while connecting projects, programmes and industry challenges nationally.

“ECN brings together expertise, partners and projects from across the country – opening doors our individual clusters simply couldn't reach alone,” says Tor Arnesen, Chair of Energy Cluster Norway.

Scaling proven programmes nationally

The joint initiative will make established programmes and expertise available to companies and industry partners across Norway. This includes a scale-up programme for promising energy technology companies developed in collaboration with MIT, as well as strong expertise in artificial intelligence for the energy sector.

ECN will also expand Energy Transition Norway's technical committee bringing together technical leaders from several of Norway’s largest energy operators. The committee will identify shared technology needs and connect industrial decision-makers directly with suppliers, technology companies and innovation environments capable of developing solutions.

The ambition is simple: to make it easier to connect the right industrial challenge with the right technology and expertise – regardless of where in Norway they are located.
